North! to Alaska...

It's been a long time in planning but the day finally arrived for our Alaskan cruise adventure. Air travel can give challenges but today didn't give us any problems. Our layover took us to San Francisco--a first for me. The view flying in was beautiful and pushed this location near the top to come back to and explore (better start saving). We had just enough time to get some local food at the airport (sourdough was a good choice). Then we landed in Vancouver, Canada, and who was waiting for us but Tim & Lori! It's been way too long and the big hugs emphasized that point!

Vancouver is a very lovely city but we only had the evening to explore. Good walking shoes were in order as we walked about 2.5 miles to the area known as Granville Island - a mini version of Seattle's Pike's Place with a large public market, shops and eateries. The air was crisp and the conversation was lively as we sat outside at the Vancouver Fish Company restaurant, then topping the evening off with a gelato. The only way back was another 2.5 miles over the Granville Bridge back to our hotel.

It was a long day (up at 4am CST) so it's an early bedtime in preparation for checking in on the cruise ship. We will have a good portion of the day to explore a little more of Vancouver before set sail at 5pm. And the adventure continues...
